French tuna recipe

As a specialist of Mediterranean products, we will give you an authentic French recipe for tuna fish. Everybody has tried tuna at least once in their lifetime. We usually eat it the very same and easy way, like as tuna salad or just stir panned, but we rarely go further than that.

That is why we wanted to give you more options when it comes to cooking tuna fish. Thus, we will tell you how to make a famous French recipe called “Thon à la provençale”, which literally means “tuna of Provence”.

Basically, it’s the way southern people in France have cooked tuna for many years. It is an old french recipe.So if you would like to travel through your next dish, read on!

You will need about 1h and 30min to have this delicious French tuna dish ready.

What do you need to make this tuna recipe ?

2 LB tuna fish
2 pounds tomatoes
3 red peppers
3 ½ of olives (green, black or both)
3 onions
4 garlic cloves
½ basil bouquet
¾ cup of white wine (dry)
Olive oil
Salt & pepper

Cooking instruction for this tuna recipe

1/ Clean and cut the tomatoes in quarters, peppers in straps, and garlic in rings.
2/ Peel and pound the garlic. Cut the basil.
3/ Boil the olives for 2 minutes and remove their core.
4/ Hit up 3 tablespoon of olive oil in a stewpan. Throw in the onions and peppers and cook for 5min while stirring.
5/ Add garlic, tomatoes, salt and pepper.
6/ On a saucepan with some olive oil, golden the tuna. Add salt and pepper. Remove it when the tuna is golden on both sides.
9/ Add the olives to the vegetables in the stew pan, add the wine and put the tuna on top of the vegetables.
10/ Cover the stewpan and let it simmer for about 1 hour on low.
11/ 5 minutes before the end of the cooking, add the basil to the preparation.

If you would like to see a video about cooking the tuna on a pan, you can watch this one. You can even eat the tuna right after taking it out of the pan. But, it won’t be the “thon a la provencale” !

Where Can I get the products ?

Most of the products for this recipe are available in your grocery store. You can even buy your tuna there. However, be careful when buying tuna, because most of the tuna in the US is CO2 treated which might not be healthy.
