For example, fishing nets with weights that are pulled on the seafloor by boats are heavily damaging because they destroy everything in their way.
A good fishing practice is, for example, the “pot fishing” method used in catching octopus. This technique doesn’t impact the seafloor at all since the pot is simply dropped on the floor and then later pulled back up. This technique also has the benefit of zero by-catch, since you only catch the targeted species. This technique is also used for ejemple to catch langoustines, lobsters, and crabs.
3/ The management of fisheries should answer to effective methods
These standards have to protect people that depend on fishing for a living. For example, a company that fishes with huge boats and uses industrial techniques will have a greater impact than small day-boats that fish using traditional ways with non-mechanical nets out of small villages off the mediterranean coast.
